WIB HISTORY


  • Started with a small office on Cyrus Wathey Square in 1960. At that time there were 5 employees. It was housed in quarters that were partitioned off from the popular Lido bar on the then De Ruyter Square.
  • In 1985, WIB opens its main office on the Clem Labega Square. The two-story facility housed 6 departments. The bank kept the square location as a branch.
  • The first two Bankomatiko terminals were installed at the main office in 1990. Two years later one Bankomatiko was relocated to Simpson Bay when the bank opened it's second branch. (Simpson Bay branch)
  • In 1994, WIB opened a branch on St. Eustatias giving context to its name of the Windward Islands Bank Ltd.
  • Over the next 12 years, the bank strategically placed 16 Bankomatiko terminals throughout Dutch St. Maarten.
  • In 1998, the bank regretfully gave up its square location. However, that same year, the decision was made to bring the bank to the people with the opening of the Bush Road branch.
  • In 1999, the Cole Bay branch was opened as the first bank branch inside a supermarket. Regretfully, this branch was closed three years later and relocated to the Orange Grove Shopping Center in Colebay.
  • In 1999, the WIB Loan Center was opened at an off-site location (the now Prime Shopping Center at Le Grand Marche) providing financing services for clients interested in personal and car loans.
  • In 2001, as demand for credit, debit card and merchant services increased, the bank opened its off-site Bankcard Services division on the Cannegieter Street.
  • In 2006, with the opening of the New Terminal Building, the bank opened a branch at the Princess Juliana International Airport.
  • Today, the bank has 6 locations, a Bankcard Services Division, a Loan Center and 17 Bankomatiko locations. The bank boasts a staff of 210.
